First Look: Sony Announces the New A7III
I got the word last week — Sony might be announcing something at WPPI. Could you swing by their booth and write a article?
Cut to 9AM today. Still no word on what exactly Sony had up their sleeves. A new flash, just announced, seemed perfect for the wedding and portrait market, was that it? No… they already had the flash on display. Could it be the next generation of A7? That seemed possible, but every Sony insider I probed seemed to be in the dark as much as me…..
… Music Intensifies. Chatter builds up. A few things Sony wants us to know. Sony introduced the world’s first full-frame mirrorless in 2013. Mirrorless is growing. Full-frame is growing.

The closed beta for Microsoft’s upcoming pirate game, Sea of Thieves, is set to begin tomorrow, January 24, and players can now start preparing for it ahead of time. The beta is available to pre-load on both Xbox One and PC, though only certain players will be able to participate in it.
Like the Sea of Thieves technical alpha back in December, tomorrow’s beta is restricted to those who either joined the Sea of Thieves Insider Program prior to December 1, 2017 or have pre-ordered the title. Xbox One players who reserved Sea of Thieves digitally from the Xbox Store will find the beta waiting in the My Games and Apps section of their console’s dashboard, while those who pre-ordered the game on PC via the Microsoft Store will find it in their Library. If you reserved the game at retail, you’ll need to redeem the code you received for the Black Dog cosmetic pack on the Microsoft Store (PC) or Xbox Store (Xbox One) before installing the beta. You can read more about how to install the beta on the official Sea of Thieves website.
The Sea of Thieves closed beta begins at 4 AM PT / 7 AM ET / 12 PM GMT on January 24 and runs until 12 AM PT / 3 AM ET / 8 AM GMT on January 29. Developer Rare hasn’t detailed what players could expect from the beta, but the studio did confirm it won’t be a portion of the full game but rather a tailored experience “that offers a true taste of the pirate life.”

Dynasty Warriors 9 overview trailer, open world and digital pre-order bonus details
A six-minute overview of the open-world Dynasty Warriors.
Koei Tecmo has released a new overview trailer for Dynasty Warriors 9, as well as new information on the game’s open world and digital pre-order bonuses.
Get the details below.
In Dynasty Warriors 9, roaming off the beaten path opens up greater experiences outside of the main story line – allowing powerful enemies to appear and challenge players with their advanced abilities and skills. These formidable opponents come in the form of humans; such as bandits, or beasts; such as wolves, which will provide additional valuable items or materials as a reward upon defeat. It may be tempting to take on these foes to gain the plethora of takings, but the situation should be carefully assessed – as fleeing from battle may be the safer option.
One skill warriors can complete to prepare for tough encounters is cooking. By visiting a teahouse, or the player’s own hideaway, materials such as meat and vegetables can be used to prepare a meal that will grant temporary boosts to their characters. Dynasty Warriors 9’s new boosts offer various effects including, but not limited to; increased experience, strength, defense, speed and jump abilities. Devouring a hearty meal ahead of an important battle is a surefire way to turn the tide of battle in the player’s favor. During a player’s stay at these locations, they not only have the option to cook and eat food to earn an advantage in battle, they can manipulate the time of day (morning, noon, dusk, night) by advancing it to speed up their health recovery.
Another way of ensuring an edge in battle is through crafting new weaponry. These new weapons are crafted through scrolls – useful items which detail the required materials for a player to collect. To unlock the abilities to craft weapons, the required scrolls for each weapon must be collected; with some weapon’s blueprints split across multiple scrolls. Players are rewarded scrolls upon completing missions or by defeating certain enemies, which will unlock a weapon which can only be crafted at a blacksmith. Gems and accessories can also be crafted, which provide substantial boosts to the player. Gems are also found throughout the world and are used in the weapon’s forging process to provide additional effects – including a variety of different elemental abilities.
When exploring Dynasty Warriors 9’s vast world map, players are able to call on their noble steed to help them quickly traverse long distances. At the start, your horse will have relatively limited abilities, which can then be enhanced through riding experience via long distances or fighting on horseback. Starting abilities also differ according to the horse’s mane, thus two horses of the same species can grow in experience at completely different rates. New horses can also be unlocked and purchased at stables, all starting at different skill levels and ready for development.
And here are the pre-order bonus details:
Koei Tecmo also announced further details to the bonus content available to fans who pre-order Dynasty Warriors 9 through the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store starting on January 29th. Those purchasing the standard version of the game are given access to 3 Avatars – Lu Bu, Zhou Tai and Wang Yuanji, a bonus weapon – the “Black Dragon Fang”, and the previously announced seven costumes for fan-favorite characters. The seven costumes are inspired by traditional Chinese undergarment styles and include an imposing Beijing Opera-style costume for Zhao Yun and six individualized costumes for Guan Yinping, Diaochan, Sun Shangxiang, Lu Lingqi, Wang Yi, and Wang Yuanji. On the other hand, those who purchase the digital deluxe version are offered all of the previously mentioned items from the standard version plus the season pass, which will grant access to all future DLC for the title, and three original Dynasty Warriors weapons: The Amethyst Iron Blade, The Crimson Ring Blade and The Jade Splendid Swords.
Dynasty Warriors 9 is due out for PlayStation 4 on February 8 in Japan, and for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on February 13 in North America and Europe.

DETROIT (Reuters) – United Parcel Service Inc (UPS.N) said on Tuesday it is buying 125 Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) all-electric semi-trucks, the largest known order for the big rig so far, as the package delivery company expands its fleet of alternative-fuel vehicles.
FILE PHOTO: Tesla’s new electric semi truck is unveiled during a presentation in Hawthorne, California, U.S. on November 16, 2017. REUTERS/Alexandria Sage/File Photo
Tesla is trying to convince the trucking community it can build an affordable electric big rig with the range and cargo capacity to compete with relatively low-cost, time-tested diesel trucks. This is the largest public order of the big rig so far, Tesla said.
Tesla unveiled its semi last month and expects the truck to be in production by 2019.
The Tesla trucks will cost around $200,000 each for a total order of about $25 million. UPS expects the semi-trucks, the big rigs that haul freight along America’s highways, will have a lower total cost of ownership than conventional vehicles, which run at about $120,000.
Tesla has received pre-orders from such major companies as Walmart (WMT.N), fleet operator J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc (JBHT.O) and food service distributor Sysco Corp (SYY.N)
Prior to UPS, the largest single pre-order came from PepsiCo Inc (PEP.N), for 100 trucks.
UPS said it has provided Tesla with data on how its trucks function on their real-world routes in order to evaluate how the vehicle should perform in its fleet.
“As with any introductory technology for our fleet, we want to make sure it’s in a position to succeed,” Scott Phillippi, UPS senior director for automotive maintenance and engineering for international operations, told Reuters.
Phillippi said the 125 trucks will allow UPS to conduct a proper test of their abilities. He said the company was still determining their routes, but the semis will “primarily be in the United States.” Tesla will provide consultation and support on charging infrastructure.
“We have high expectations and are very optimistic that this will be a good product and it will have firm support from Tesla to make it work,” Phillippi said.
The UPS alternative fuel fleet already includes trucks propelled by electricity, natural gas, propane and other non-traditional fuels.
About 260,000 semis, or heavy-duty Class-8 trucks, are produced in North America annually, according to FTR, an industry economics research firm.
Including the UPS order, Tesla has at least 410 pre-orders in hand, according to a Reuters tally.
Navistar International Corp (NAV.N) and Volkswagen AG VOWG-P.DE hope to launch a smaller, electric medium-duty truck by late 2019, while rival Daimler AG (DAIGn.DE) has delivered the first of a smaller range of electric trucks to customers in New York.
In afternoon trade on Nasdaq, Tesla shares were down nearly 1.1 percent at $335.24.

All of this makes the FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS an excellent choice for both stills and movies.
Professional reliability and operability
A fluorine coating on the front element prevents contaminants such as oils, grime, and water from sticking to the front of the lens, and makes them easier to remove if they do become attached to the lens surface. A dust and moisture resistant design* and customizable focus hold button further contribute to professional operability and reliability.
*Not guaranteed to be 100% dust- and moisture-proof.

With a continuous shooting speed of 7 fps or 9 fps using the optional MB-D18 battery pack with EN-EL 18b/a Lithium-ion Battery, the D850 can capture those perfect moments in action from a bride walking down the aisle to gravity-defying sports shots at it’s full 45.7 MP resolution.
153 Point AF System
With 153 focus points, 99 cross-type sensors and a dedicated AF processor, the D850 combines the best of flagship AF technology so that you can be assured that your high resolution images are as sharp as can be.
Autofocus Down to -4 EV
Focus in near darkness down to -4 EV to capture moody low-light scenes. Suddenly, fast NIKKORprimes and zooms can handle even lower light than before.
Full Frame 4K UHD
Record 16:9 4K Ultra HD (3840×2160) in full frame glory using the total width of the D850’s back-side illuminated CMOS sensor. Take advantage of the large sensor size for clean output at high ISO and for shooting with zero crop factor with full-frame NIKKOR lenses3, including wide and ultra-wide angle lenses.
4K and 8K Time-Lapse
Create jaw-dropping 4K time-lapse movies right in-camera or exquisitely-detailed 8K time-lapse sequences of up to 9,999 full-size stills using D850’s Interval Timer Mode.
120 fps Slow-Motion
Transform dramatic moments into dazzling fluid slow-motion sequences. Record 4x (shoot at 120p, playback at 30/25p) or 5x (shoot at 120p, playback at 24p) slow-motion at 1080p.
Versatile Sound Controls
When audio levels rise unexpectedly, D850’s sound attenuator automatically reduces the microphone sensitivity to prevent distortion and maintain smooth recording with clear sound.
Focus Peaking
Confirm your manual focus with Focus Peaking4. Select high, medium or low sensitivity and red, yellow, blue or white highlights.
Selectable Highlight Detection
Avoid overly bright or blown-out highlights in your videos with D850’s three selectable Zebra Stripes highlight detection patterns.
Tilt and Touch
The tilting touchscreen LCD makes it easy to get the shot, even from high or low angels. Use Touch AF, Touch Shutter control and navigate menus, playback and more as if you were using a touch-enabled smart device. Zoom in during Live View shooting and use the new Pinpoint AF to put focus right where you want it.
Focus Stacking Made Easy
Create images with extraordinary depth of field using Focus Shift Mode. Set focal steps from 1 to 10 for up to 300 automated shots and D850 will automatically shift focus between shots and collect the images in a dedicated folder for easy identification when using 3rd party focus stacking software5.
Do Not Disturb
When silence is golden – shooting golf, press conferences, weddings and more – turn on Silent Photography in Live View and capture without sound or mechanical vibration. In mode 1, shoot for up to 6 fps continuous at 45.7 MP. In Mode 2, shoot approx. 8.6-megapixel pictures in DX image area at approx. 30 fps for up to 3 seconds.
Battery Grip
Add the new MB-D18 Multi Battery Power Pack for improved handling with telephoto prime or telephoto zoom lenses, and increase your shooting speed to 9 fps6 at full resolution.
Wireless Transmitter
When you’ve got a deadline, transfer speed can make all the difference. Transfer images and movie files to a PC or FTP server via wired LAN/wireless LAN using the optional WT-7 Wireless Transmitter.
Negative Digitizer
Digitize the gems from your film days at D850’s full 45.7 MP using the new optional ES-2 Film Digitizer Adapter on a compatible Micro-NIKKOR lens.
WR-A10/R10 Transceiver
When combined with the optional WR-A10/R10 transceiver7, the D850 can control and wirelessly fire radio controlled SB-5000 Speedlights from another room, around corners or outdoors in bright sunlight.
Define Your Style
Control the look of your photos and videos with Nikon’s Picture Control System. Spend more time in the field focusing on being creative and less time post-processing. Select Auto Picture Control and let the D850 optimize the look for your specific shot.
XQD Storage
Using optional XQD storage allows for optimum handling of D850’s incredible high resolution files and shooting speeds. SD can be used for back up, overflow or just as extra storage space.
Streamlined Workflow
Seamlessly switch between RAW sizes of Large (45.4 MP), Medium (25.6 MP) and Small (11.4 MP), whichever fits your need or workflow. Save time with RAW batch processing right in the camera.
Built-in Wireless Connectivity
Transfer images to a compatible smartphone or tablet instantly using Nikon’s SnapBridge app and the D850’s constant Bluetooth Low Energy connection.
Designed to Outperform
Whether in the studio or on-location, from the catwalk or the scenic overlook to a wedding ceremony or night sky, the Nikon D850 is the versatile tool to capture all, with astounding resolution and speed.
Phenomenal Battery Life
All day shooting shouldn’t require frequent battery changes. The D850 is extremely energy efficient and can shoot approx 1,840 shots8 at full resolution or approx. 70 minutes of video on a single charge.
Built Rugged
The D850 is built for extreme durability using rugged magnesium alloy and carbon fiber materials. The sturdy camera body protects the sophisticated technologies insode against accidental shock.
Withstand the Elements
The D850 has extensive weather and dust sealing applied to its joint parts and seams, allowing you to shoot with confidence, even in harsh weather conditions and the most extreme environments.

The ZTE Axon 7 is a solid device, but not everyone’s looking for a 5.5-inch phone. Now there’s the smaller, less expensive Axon 7 Mini available for pre-order in the US. This device costs a little under $300 and keeps the same aluminum unibody design as its larger sibling. It does take a step down in the spec department, though.
The Axon 7 Mini retains the dual SIM slots and dual front-facing speakers of the larger phone. Around back is a fingerprint scanner inside a nice divot that helps to stabilize the phone in your hand. The smaller body of this device should make it very comfortable to hold. Interestingly, the images of the Axon 7 Mini don’t show any physical nav buttons like the Axon 7 has. There aren’t any software buttons either, but this could just be an oversight.
The Axon 7 Mini will be available through ZTE, Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, and B&H (not all listings are live yet). Best Buy has a 60-day exclusive on the gold color, though. ZTE doesn’t list a ship date, but Best Buy says the device is out on Halloween.

Earlier this summer, rumors of a new Chromebook nicknamed ‘Kevin’ circulated around the web, and yesterday, ChromeUnboxed uncovered the yet-to-be-announced model through a series of retailer listings: the Samsung Chromebook Pro.
ChromeUnboxed noted that it had received a user tip of a listing for the device on B&H, which was quickly taken down. However, the site turned up a listing for the Chromebook onAdorama, as well as a landing page for the device.
The new Chromebook comes with a variety of impressive features: a 12.3 inch 2400×1600 resolution touch screen that can rotate 360 degrees, minimal bezels, 32GB of storage, 4GB of RAM, a stylus, an all-metal 12.9 mm-thick body and 10 hours of battery time. The hardware seems to be designed with Android app support in mind.
The device is currently listed for pre-order on Adorama with a $499 price tag. There’s no official release date listed, but ChromeUnboxed reported that the since-deleted B&H product page listed October 24th for availability.
