FoxNext’s character-collection game based in the Marvel universe received a big 2.0 update today. In addition to several new features and some new objectives to earn rewards, three marquee characters are joining the roster.

Venom headlines the additions as the character’s film starring Tom Hardy nears release. Players can earn Venom by completing event campaign missions and new Alpha Strike raids, which come in three difficulties and require players to use the Cosmic, Global, and City heroes on their teams. In addition to Venom, players will also soon be able to recruit Mystique and Ultron. Ultron previously appeared as a CPU-controlled enemy, but this is the first time players will be able to recruit him.

Venoms to the rescue

Venomous animals have been admired and feared since prehistoric times, and their venoms have been used to both benefit and impair human health. In 326 BCE, Alexander the Great encountered lethal arrowheads in India that, based on the symptoms of dying soldiers, were most likely laced with venom from the deadly Russell’s viper. By contrast, snake venom has been used in Ayurvedic medicine since the 7th century BCE to prolong life and treat arthritis and gastrointestinal ailments, while tarantulas are used in the traditional medicine of indigenous populations of Mexico and Central and South America. The modern era of venom research has so far yielded six venom-derived drugs (1). Recent work has elucidated the evolutionary biology of venoms and provided an impressive diversity of new therapeutic drug candidates.

Venomous organisms are ubiquitous. All known animal phyla contain venomous species. There are more than 220,000 known venomous animal species, or ∼15% of all described animal biodiversity on Earth. Venomous animals inhabit virtually all marine and terrestrial habitats, ranging from desert snakes and scorpions to Antarctic sea anemones and jellyfish. However, most of their venoms have not been studied. For example, invertebrates make up more than 90% of all extant species, yet we know very little about their venoms (2). In large part, this neglect has been due to the lack of appropriate technologies for studying the tiny amounts of venom that can be extracted from small animals. However, the recent revolution in omics technologies (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics) has enabled the study of venoms from animals that are small, rare, or hard to maintain in the lab (3).

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Bolstered with Winter Soldier, Black Widow, and Venom on December 5

Your daily selection of the hottest trending gaming news!

According to PlayStation.Blog

Alert, PlayStation Nation! We just received intelligence that a soldier, a spy, and a symbiote have set their eyes on Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Your mission is to watch this action-packed gameplay trailer to prepare for the upcoming DLC characters Winter Soldier, Black Widow, and Venom, all available on December 5!

Young soldier Bucky Barnes fought alongside his best friend Captain America during World War II. Presumed dead after a dangerous mission ended in tragedy, he was captured by enemy forces and secretly brainwashed into becoming a deadly assassin known as the Winter Soldier. Bucky, now free from his captors, is once again ready to fight for the good of humanity.

Winter Soldier excels at ground combat using special moves that send the opponent flying across the screen and projectiles that bounce off the walls and floor. Bucky can activate metal shield, which utilizes his cybernetic arm to turn him into an anchor, allowing him to ignore attacks without taking any damage!

Trained extensively in the art of combat and espionage and outfitted with state-of-the-art tech, Natasha Romanova is the super spy known as Black Widow. Dutiful and fearless, she is a master assassin who found her true calling as an Avenger. She now fights to protect the world from Ultron Sigma’s influence.

As a deadly spy, Black Widow has tools for every situation. Her unique acrobatic jump can be performed in mid-air and followed up with one of her many tricky projectiles with the press of a button. Natasha also showcases her skills in hand-to-hand combat with her trusty electric batons.

Blaming Peter Parker for the failure of his journalism career, former Daily Bugle reporter Eddie Brock bonded with a malevolent, symbiotic alien creature who had previously attempted to bond with Peter. United by the goal to destroy Spider-Man, they are the fearsome force known only as Venom!

Prepare for the unexpected with Venom’s shapeshifting abilities. As a frightening force on the battlefield, Venom can launch himself across all angles of the screen and has no issue manipulating the opponent’s options to favor his own.

Everyone who has the 2017 Character Pass will unlock access to Winter Soldier, Black Widow, and Venom on December 5 — along with the previously released Black Panther, Sigma, and Monster Hunter. Each character is also available for purchase individually.
