The ZEISS Milvus 1.4/35 is particularly suitable for portrait photography thanks to its speed. The high maximum aperture enables the subject to stand out clearly against the background, and the photographer can achieve creative combinations of focus and blur.

The manual focus enables very exact focusing, and the creamy bokeh provides an excellent image look. And even at full aperture the image quality leaves nothing to be desired.

The ZEISS Milvus 1.4/35 is also perfectly at home in landscape photography: “The 35- millimeter focal length is a genuine all-rounder.” Like all lenses in the ZEISS Milvus family, it is protected against dust and splashes and, according to Casenave, even bad weather is no problem. The metal barrel gives the lens its robust and durable character.

Practically no chromatic aberrations thanks to a new optical design
With aspherical lens elements, special glass materials and advanced correction, ZEISS has given the lens a completely new optical design. This means the photos are practically free from chromatic aberrations. Thanks to their excellent edge-to-edge imagery the ZEISS Milvus lenses are designed for high-performance digital cameras.

The ten lenses in the ZEISS Milvus family, ranging between 15 and 100 millimeters, are also suitable for film productions: the manual focus with a large rotation angle can be operated with the aid of a ZEISS Lens Gear with a follow-focus system. The de-click function allows the aperture to be set continuously in the version for Nikon cameras. A further benefit for filming: ZEISS has matched the color characteristics of the ten lenses. Filmmakers can therefore switch between the focal lengths and still have a uniform color look.

    The solid metal construction houses ten aperture blades giving a beautiful bokeh and a “de-clicked” aperture control (aperture measured in T-stops and this is the actual available light measurement.).     SLR Magic’s uniquely designed variable neutral density filter provides the equivalent brightness range from 2 1/3 (ND 1.3) to 6 (ND 64) f-stop reduction with full practical range. Color shift and cross-like vignette effect commonly found on variable ND filters are avoided through use of special glass and treatment.

    The versatility of the SLR Magic variable ND filter replaces the need for a set of ND filters and also prevents vignette that may occur when multiple ND filters are used. Digital multi-coating is used to reduce lens flares and ghosting effect caused by reflections. Calibrated markings on filter allow for repeatable positions.

    Lever on ND filter helps to avoid obstruction during recording when ultra wide angle lenses. The SLR Magic Variable ND has markings from Minimum to Maximum in 12 calibrated positions, which are repeatable. Sharpness of Variable ND filters usually decreases dramatically whenused beyond ND density of 1.0 but the SLR Magic Variable ND filter is able to maintain sharpness throughout the entire density range.

    Many indie filmmakers who wanted to shoot anamorphic had to depend on rare vintage lenses, which was not always reliable. In hopes to provide a reliable and available solution for indie anamorphic shooters, SLR Magic introduced the SLR Magic Anamorphot 1.33x-50 and 2x-50 adapter. These two adapters offered maximum compatibility for third party taking lenses.

    The new SLR Magic Anamorphot 1.33x 40 adapter is a single focus anamorphic adapter designed to work specifically with the SLR Magic HyperPrime CINE 25mm T0.95 III at 2.8 on micro four thirds and the SLR Magic 50mm F1.1 CINE at 2.8 for E-mount S35 and APS-C sensor.

    To achieve the much loved 2.35:1 scope aspect ratio, which gives a very pleasant, epic effect, filmmakers must crop off the top and bottom of standard 16:9 footage when using spherical lenses with modern digital cameras. As a result, 25% of sensor/negative information is discarded.

    As a commitment to the film industry, SLR Magic developed this 1.33x anamorphic adapter to help filmmakers maximize their image quality by preventing this loss of vertical resolution. The unique 1.33x squeeze factor uses the entire 16:9 sensor/negative area to achieve the desired 2.35:1 aspect ratio.The Anamorphot 1.33x 50 does this by compressing a 33% wider field of view to fit the width of the 16:9 sensor/negative without compressing image height.

    Modern professional cinema cameras have large sensors capable of capturing an image in the 2.35:1 format directly, using spherical lenses, but film makers still desire the anamorphic “look” which often limits them to using rare vintagelenses. These present a number of difficulties in practice such as size, weight, lack of close focus, availability, and high price. SLR Magic sought to overcome such issues with the SLR Magic Anamorphot.

    The SLR Magic Anamorphot 1.33x 40 create a unique “artifact” such as horizontal lens flare, commonly referred to as anamorphic streaks, and may create slightly elongated bokeh when achromatic diopters are used. Over the history of cinema, these same stylish effects have contributed to the cinematic “look” of epic motion picture photography. Characteristics that shape this anamorphic “look” come from “front-mounted” anamorphic adapter designs such as the SLR Magic Anamorphot while “rear-mounted” anamorphic designs have more suppressed anamorphic characteristics.

    The SLR Magic APO HyperPrime 50mm T2.1 Cine Lens is one of a new collection of fast primes aimed at professional cinematographers. When taking pictures with many image-dominant, open light sources, it is common for correction defects to show up. However, because the SLR Magic APO-HyperPrime CINE 50mm T2.1 is an apochromatic (APO) lens, longitudinal chromatic aberrations are corrected by its unique optical design and selection of optical elements.

    The color defects are therefore significantly lower than the defined limits. Bright / dark transitions in the image and especially highlights, are rendered with no colorful artifacts. Thanks to the low level of longitudinal chromatic aberration, there are no visible aberrations. So an illuminated portrait scene by night with many light sources in front of and behind the actual focal plane appears close to reality, without displaying complementary, color contrast edges.

    The superior performance delivered by the SLR Magic APO HyperPrime CINE 50mm T2.1 is consistent for all shooting distances. Its high performance with an open aperture also makes this lens a great choice for portraits or close-ups.     The APO HyperPrime CINE lens series comes standard in PL mount and can be easily adapted to numerous camera systems. Durable design and agile performance
The AF-S FISHEYE NIKKOR 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED lens is a workhorse. The front and rear elements have Nikon’s protective Fluorine coat, which lets grime and liquid roll right off the lens. The lens barrel is dust and moisture resistant for shooting in challenging conditions. You can even remove the lens hood and lens cap together to shoot 180° circular images, or leave the hood on to shoot a frame-filling traditional fisheye image. Aspherical Lens
> A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements necessary. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the center of the lens.

Electromagnetic Diaphragm Mechanism
An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism in the lens barrel provides highly accurate electronic diaphragm or aperture blade control when using auto exposure during continuous shooting. With conventional D/G type lenses, the diaphragm blades are operated by mechanical linkage levers.

ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass
An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.

IF Lens
A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. Thus, IF NIKKORS do not change in size during AF operation, allowing for compact, lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.

Near-silent, fast autofocus stepping motor
The AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR focuses like a dream. When shooting video, its smooth stepping motor keeps focusing noise to a minimum. If you need to make adjustments, you’ll appreciate the silky smooth manual operation. To eliminate unintentional changes to the VR ON/OFF and AF/MF settings, those controls have been moved to the camera menu, and their status can be easily verified in your camera’s information display.

Aspherical Lens
A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. It’s a comforting thought: The camera adds 10 pounds. After all, it means that the “you” that you see in photographs is not actually your best self. In real life, you’re better: you’re more attractive and slimmer.

And it turns out that this age-old line isn’t just a tale that we spin to make ourselves feel better about bad group photos. The camera really does add 10 pounds. Or, some cameras do at least.

According to Gizmodo, the focal length of a camera can flatten out your features, which can make you look a little bit bigger. Then, of course, there’s barrel distortion, which is when a camera lens can cause straight lines to appear curved. This has the effect of plumping you up, making you look, well, kind of fatter.

But it’s not just a one way street. These same effects can actually cause other lenses to make you appear thinner!

To highlight the incredible way that focal length can affect the shape of the face, photographerDan Vojtech stitched together a series of 9 portraits that he took at 20mm, 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70mm, 105mm, 150mm, and 200mm.
