PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds to get third map within the next four months

According to Eurogamer.net

The planet-conquering PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will get its third in-game map within the first half of this year – AKA, before the end of June.

A roadmap of game updates will be shared in March, developer Bluehole promised via a new Steam update today. Chief among these updates will be details of PUBG’s third map, following the Russia-set Erangel and the recent Central American-set Miramar.

Despite PUBG’s popularity, new features have been slow to trickle out in recent weeks and months – something especially notable when you compare the game to its big battle royale rival Fortnite, which has made a point of having a new feature or update every few weeks.

The long wait for fresh PUBG content is in part due to Bluehole’s recent focus on banning cheaters. More than a million accounts were banned in January alone.

“Early this year, development of some of the major features and systems was [sic] delayed as our focus shifted towards tightening our anti-cheat effort,” Bluehole wrote. “Also, due to other reasons, we have not been able to show you the team’s development roadmap for 2018.

“We would like to ask for our players’ generous understanding that despite the team’s eagerness to share what we have been planning and working on, the timing had to be changed. We do have a lot of exciting things that we want to share with you, including new content to provide more extensive battle royale experiences as well as improvements and modifications to create a deeper and more realistic gameplay.

“In March, the team will reveal what you can expect from us in the first half of 2018 in terms of our development and new content plans which, by the way, include a new map.”

It’s not the first we’ve heard of PUBG’s third map. Last year, Bluehole teased its location as being around the Adriatic Sea, with both a sandy coastline and snowy mountains.

Today’s blog post accompanies a new game update which fixes some bugs and makes a few other, minor changes. You’ll no longer be able to see the inside of the aeroplane at the start of a match, for example, but can check the number of remaining passengers via a new counter on the UI.

Details on the Innovative Xbox Control Scheme for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

Your daily selection of the hottest trending gaming news!

According to Xbox Wire

Veteran players of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on PC are no doubt aware of the in-game inventory management and upgrades mixed with high-stakes gunplay that has made the game great. Translating these mechanics down to the Xbox One controller has been a challenge, but the team at PUBG Corp. — with support from the Xbox Advanced Technology Group and The Coalition, developers of the Gears of War franchise — believe they’ve found the right balance between giving players enough flexibility to survive in the hostile battleground and to effectively manage in-game equipment on the fly.

The first key thing to remember is that to see these controls, change look sensitivity, or invert the look axis simply hold the Menu button while in a match to bring up the in-game menu.

PUBG Xbox XGP Warrior Pack At The Ready

Basic

These will be your primary controls when navigating the world. Note that many of the buttons have a dual-purpose by either quickly pressing or holding down. For example, holding X will allow you to reload your weapon; tapping X will allow you to interact with objects. You’ll be interacting with a lot of objects in-game, quickly picking up items as fast as you can in the early going as you’re looking for weapons and equipment.

Notice that the DPAD directions can be used as quick action keys to cycle between for your grenades and healing items. For healing and boosts, tap the DPAD down button to cycle what you have and then hold briefly to start using that item without opening your inventory screen. Also, as is common in 3rd person action shooters, holding the Left Trigger will increase your accuracy while still in 3rd person view. Like the default on the PC, to aim down your weapon’s sights or scope for precision accuracy, tap the left trigger to enter the aiming mode and tap again to exit.

Aim

When in Aim mode, the controls shift to primarily cater to those who have found themselves a nice perch to look for opponents, with options to hold breath and the utilization of the DPAD to change modes of fire (e.g. single shot). Note how both the LT and RT will be working together for you to use grenades while in Aim mode.

Vehicle

The development team looked to keep this aspect as straight-forward as possible, modeling the controls after similar multiplayer shooters that have a driving component. Note that this is when you’re behind the wheel or in a vehicle — if you want to enter a vehicle, you’ll press X to interact with the vehicle’s doors. To quickly jump to the driver seat from any seat in the vehicle, briefly hold A button to get buckled in.

Swim

Swimming is a full body effort when you’re navigating the currents in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, so the ability to use your weapon while in water cannot be possible. You can, however, interact with any loot that you find while underwater for you to add to your inventory. Just remember to Dive (B button) to avoid being detected by enemies.

Map

One of the key elements of PUBG throughout the course of the match is the reduction of the Blue Zone throughout the game. This area is randomly chosen in every match, so consulting your map about where that location is for you to get to safety is vital for your long(er)-term survival. Also, consult the map to avoid Red Zones as those randomly appear as well. You don’t want to fall victim to napalm from the sky.

Inventory

Switching between columns in your inventory guide (RB/LB) will be a key component as you move through your equipment and supplies while in-game. Use the A button to pick up a weapon from the inventory UI, then select which highlighted slot you’d like to place it, then press A again. The key here is that pressing X picks up items into your bag like ammo and attachments, A swaps and equips items with your current loadout, and Y always drops the selected or highlighted item.

To easily strip all attachments from your weapons, simply highlight the weapon in your inventory and hold X. This will place all attachments back into your inventory bag. This keeps them available to place on your next weapon of choice. You can also hold Y to strip all the attachments to the ground if your bag is too full before grabbing your new weapon.

We hope you’ve liked this early look at the controls for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Note that while these are the controls for PUBG‘s launch to Xbox Game Preview, PUBG Corp. will be monitoring all community feedback and may adjust some of these as necessary and your feedback will be key.

We can’t wait to see you on the island starting on Tuesday, December 12!

Battlegrounds breaks 10M sales less than 6 months into Early Access

Your daily selection of the best gaming news!

According to Gamasutra News

The last-man-standing battle royal title Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds has smashed through yet another sales milestone to sell 10 million copies, just under six months after its launch into Early Access this past March.

This latest achievement comes just weeks after Bluehole, the Korean studio at the helm of the game’s development, announced that the game had passed 8 million sold meaning the Early Access title has moved roughly 2 million copies in those weeks alone.

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds has been steadily climbing the charts since it first appeared on PC around five months back, both in terms of copies sold and concurrent players. At the end of July, PUBG dethroned Fallout 4 to become the most concurrently played non-Valve game on all of Steam.

Just one month later, Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds briefly eclipsed Dota 2’s concurrent players to become the most active game on the platform at the time with over 877,000 players. Now, maybe a week after that, Bluehole lists Battlegrounds peak player-count at 970,000 as the game’s rapid growth brings it closer and closer to Dota 2’s all-time peak player record of 1.2 million.

Each of these milestones has come to pass as while the game both only on PC and in Early Access, though Bluehole does currently have plans to bring the game to Xbox One later this year through the platform’s game preview program and later as a full release in early 2018.

See Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds’ New Desert Map For First Time

We already knew Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds has two new maps in development. Now, developer Bluehole has shown off one of them for the first time. The desert arena doesn’t yet have a name, but we know it’s based in Peru and will have sandstorms, among other new features. Take a look at the new images below.

Bluehole originally shared the news at E3 2017, where it also showcased a new weapon–the short-to-medium range OTS rifle–and improved traversal animations. More weather effects are also on the way, along with mod support further down the line.

The Peru-based desert map isn’t the only one coming: in addition, Bluehole is working on a snowy arena set in the Adriatic region, containing a ruined cosmodrome. No release date has been announced for either map.

The big Battlegrounds news from E3 2017 was that the title is coming to Xbox One as a “console launch exclusive” later this year. It has so far reached 3 million players on PC, where it remains in Early Access.

Finally, the battle royale title will soon add a new Zombies mode, in which players can control the undead and attempt to overcome their human enemies. For more on the popular multiplayer game, check out our Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds Let’s Play.
