Catherine: Full Body announced for PS4, PS Vita

A third Catherine makes her debut.

Catherine: Full Body

Atlus has announced Catherine: Full Body for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. It is developed by Studio Zero, the studio led by Persona 5 director Katsura Hashino.

Catherine is an action puzzle game released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011. It follows the story of Vincent, a 32 year-old man who cheats on his fiancee Katherine with a woman named Catherine, and is desperately trying to survive while suffering from nightmares that come as a result of his actions. Catherine: Full Body will feature a “third Catherine” whose personality and aura seem to be quite different from the previous two, as well as new scenes with Katherine and Catherine.

The December 21 issue of Weekly Famitsu will have the exclusive first report on Catherine: Full Body, including a profile for the third Catherine, an interview with the developers, and a front cover illustrated by character designer Shigenori Soejima. Famitsu.com has already shared two screenshots from the game, the first of which shows the third Catherine and the second a new scene with the original Catherine.

UPS reserves 125 Tesla semi-trucks, largest public pre-order yet

DETROIT (Reuters) – United Parcel Service Inc (UPS.N) said on Tuesday it is buying 125 Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) all-electric semi-trucks, the largest known order for the big rig so far, as the package delivery company expands its fleet of alternative-fuel vehicles.

 Screen Shot 2017-12-19 at 2.57.37 PM.png

Tesla is trying to convince the trucking community it can build an affordable electric big rig with the range and cargo capacity to compete with relatively low-cost, time-tested diesel trucks. This is the largest public order of the big rig so far, Tesla said.

Tesla unveiled its semi last month and expects the truck to be in production by 2019.

The Tesla trucks will cost around $200,000 each for a total order of about $25 million. UPS expects the semi-trucks, the big rigs that haul freight along America’s highways, will have a lower total cost of ownership than conventional vehicles, which run at about $120,000.

Tesla has received pre-orders from such major companies as Walmart (WMT.N), fleet operator J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc (JBHT.O) and food service distributor Sysco Corp (SYY.N)

Prior to UPS, the largest single pre-order came from PepsiCo Inc (PEP.N), for 100 trucks.

UPS said it has provided Tesla with data on how its trucks function on their real-world routes in order to evaluate how the vehicle should perform in its fleet.

“As with any introductory technology for our fleet, we want to make sure it’s in a position to succeed,” Scott Phillippi, UPS senior director for automotive maintenance and engineering for international operations, told Reuters.

Phillippi said the 125 trucks will allow UPS to conduct a proper test of their abilities. He said the company was still determining their routes, but the semis will “primarily be in the United States.” Tesla will provide consultation and support on charging infrastructure.

“We have high expectations and are very optimistic that this will be a good product and it will have firm support from Tesla to make it work,” Phillippi said.

The UPS alternative fuel fleet already includes trucks propelled by electricity, natural gas, propane and other non-traditional fuels.

About 260,000 semis, or heavy-duty Class-8 trucks, are produced in North America annually, according to FTR, an industry economics research firm.

Including the UPS order, Tesla has at least 410 pre-orders in hand, according to a Reuters tally.

Navistar International Corp (NAV.N) and Volkswagen AG VOWG-P.DE hope to launch a smaller, electric medium-duty truck by late 2019, while rival Daimler AG (DAIGn.DE) has delivered the first of a smaller range of electric trucks to customers in New York.

In afternoon trade on Nasdaq, Tesla shares were down nearly 1.1 percent at $335.24.

Soulcalibur 6 finally brings the tale of swords and souls to PC

Your daily selection of the hottest trending gaming news!

According to PC Gamer

Screen Shot 2017-12-19 at 9.34.33 PM.png

The Soulcalibur series has been around since the late ‘90s, but VI marks its first appearance on PC—and it’s long overdue. It’s a fairly traditional beat-’em-up in most respects, but with a focus on melee weapons and the ability to move in eight directions, rather than being stuck on a flat Street Fighter-style plane. So as well as blocking and parrying, you can side-step away from the beautifully-animated swings of your opponent’s sword, staff, axe, or claws. It’s also wonderfully melodramatic, like an absurd medieval soap opera where people settle their disputes by battering each other with deadly weapons.

The series is also famous for the wild variety of its characters. There’s katana-wielding samurai Mitsurugi, ghostly pirate lord Cervantes, whip-cracking warrior Ivy, and weird contortionist gimp Voldo, just to name a few. And they all feel distinct thanks to the quality of the series’ animation and the particular strengths and weaknesses of their weapons of choice. The final roster for VI hasn’t been confirmed yet, but Mitsurugi and nimble sword-and-shield fighter Sophitia were available in the early demo I played.

Longtime fans will be glad to know that Soulcalibur hasn’t changed much at all. If you’re familiar with the series, the controls will immediately feel comfortable. You can slash vertically and horizontally with your weapon, juggle your opponent in the air, change your stance, and chain dazzling, rapid-fire combos together. It’s classic Soulcalibur, and considering this will be many PC gamers’ introduction to the series, that’s a good thing. It wouldn’t be fair if our first taste of the game was some dramatic reinvention.

But, in saying that, there are some new additions to the traditional formula, including a system designed to give rookie players a chance against a more experienced fighter. Hold the Reversal Edge button and you’ll slowly charge up an attack that, if it lands successfully, grinds time to a halt and forces both players into a violent game of rock, paper, scissors. You have a few seconds to guess what the other player is about to do and react accordingly. The idea behind this system is giving a struggling player some breathing room, and a chance to come back from an overwhelming assault.

Screen Shot 2017-12-19 at 9.34.49 PM.png

Charging a Reversal Edge leaves you briefly open to attack, however, so there’s still some risk involved in trying to trigger one. But if you manage to predict your opponent’s attack and respond correctly, they’ll be stunned briefly when you’re whisked back to regular combat, giving you an edge. It’s nice to see a beat-’em-up—one of the toughest genres for new players to get into and, more importantly, stick with—making some concessions for the more inexperienced among us. But the danger involved in pulling a successful Reversal Edge off also means that it won’t give them an unfair advantage either.

The demo I played was clearly a work in progress, with only two stages, two characters, and a basic duel mode to choose from. But even at this early stage it has that familiar, satisfying Soulcalibur combination of weighty combat and vibrant, flowing animation. The Critical Edge super moves are particularly entertaining to watch, including one where Sophitia knocks her opponent into the air, charges her sword up with lightning, then throws it, impaling them in the stomach. And as they fall back to the ground, crackling with electricity, she turns to the camera and poses for you, nonchalantly catching her sword. It’s completely over the top, yes, but brilliant because of it.

Making a fighting game deep for veterans as well as accessible for newbies is not an easy thing to pull off, but developer Project Soul is having a confident crack at it here. I’m also interested to see whether we get a PC-exclusive guest character. Previous games have featured Link from The Legend of Zelda, Ezio from Assassin’s Creed II, and even Darth Vader and Yoda. How about Gordon Freeman? He could use his crowbar as a weapon. It’s perfect. Soulcalibur VI, which producer Motohiro Okubo considers a celebration of the series’ storied 20 year history, is due for release sometime next year, and I’m glad to see the tale of swords and souls finally being told on PC.

Surprise! A New Zelda Is In Development, But What Do You Want From It?

Your daily selection of the hottest trending gaming news!

According to Nintendo Life | Latest Updates

To the surprise of absolutely nobody at all, Nintendo has recently confirmed that work has already begun on the next instalment in the Zelda franchise. The blindingly obvious announcement came in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: Master Works, a book which has recently launched in Japan and contains production material and artwork from the epic Switch and Wii U outing.

Given the lengthy development period Breath of the Wild endured, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll see anything of this new game any time soon, but that doesn’t mean we can’t wildly speculate about what form it will take. As we discussed not so long ago on this very site, Breath of the Wild is perhaps the most drastic re-imagining of the core Zelda concept since the inception of the series on the NES in the ’80s. Can the franchise ever return to its more linear roots after the gloriously expansive open-world gameplay of Link’s latest adventure? Will players be content to have their freedom and agency scaled back in order to re-establish “traditional” elements such as rigid gear-gated dungeons, unbreakable weapons and classic items, like the Hook Shot?

The team behind the Zelda series is certainly at an interesting crossroads, and as ever, we’d love to hear what you think they should do with the next entry. Be sure to cast your vote in the poll below and then post a comment explaining your choice, and what shape you hope the next Zelda game will take.
